Dewey Decibel is an emcee/visual artist from Philadelphia who has a deep love for breakfast foods and brunettes.
This is a mixtape that reminds me of the ones I used to make for myself when I was in High School. I would dub cassette tapes with all of my favorite hip hop tracks jammed together that would correspond to the seasonal shifts. This mix evokes a certain sense of excitement that the spring would awaken, along with a nostalgic feeling of the hip hop I was listening to as I started to rap.
This collection of songs are all contemporary tracks but have a particular timeless feel and are connected together by the super relaxed vibes and mood. There is a smoked out, hazy quality to these songs, almost a loopy psychedelic feeling to a lot of these productions. Listening back,I am instantly transported to one of the hundreds of "freestyle" cruises I would embark on with one or many friends. Driving around the winding roads of Bucks county, shuffling through the hottest tracks on your iPod with a the smell of a blunt burning in the background. Spring time vibes.
Another reason why I picked these songs is because they all have weed smoke in the recordings. All the rappers are really rapping. Not in a "real rap" "I got bars, dog" kind of punchline manner but truly exemplifying the joy of rapping. I connected with the songs because the rhymers are just riding these beats, so deep in the pocket in their own flow. These songs are bonded together by how comfortable all of the MC's sound, truly effortless spitters sounding super fresh. That is mainly what this collection of songs is about, the feeling of FRESH.
